ASSEMBLE Coat Hooks
Adapted from traditional Raku firing techniques, Assemble's Granby Workshop begins by wrapping burnished clay hooks in tin foil and burying each of them in a sawdust-fueled pyre for 12 hours. As smoke dances across each surface, the hooks take on a totally unique appearance — the fire seasoned with banana skins and pine needles to enhance their character. A subtle, singular utility piece to hang your hat on.
Based in London, the Turner Prize-winning creative collective Assemble eschew the traditional borders between fine art, architecture and design. Championing a practice that is interdependent and collaborative, Assemble works on both a macro and micro scale — from massive neighborhood rehabilitations to simple doorknobs.
